Quick Tips For Using The Search Form:

  1. Enter the key word(s) in the Show Name, Content, or Appearance fields.
  2. If unsure, or it does not matter, leave any of the fields blank.
  3. Omit common words (e.g., in, of, and, for, the) to avoid extraneous matches.
  4. Best to use "ONE" key word in "ONE" field for each search.
  5. Search the Appearance field only in the Musical Programs and Big Band Remotes.
  6. The search is not case sensitive and does not require an exact match.

Examples for using the search form:

  1. If you were looking for an Abbott and Costello show containing a guest appearance by Marlene Dietrich in an episode about a bank robber, you would find the show by entering ABBOTT in the Show Name field and DIETRICH in the Content field.
  2. If you remembered that the episode in Example #1 was about a bank robber, but couldn't remember who the guest star was, you could find the show by entering ABBOTT in the Show Name field and BANK in the Content field.
  3. If you wanted to see all of the Abbott and Costello shows that are available in the Crabapple Sound OTR catalog, you could find the shows by entering COSTELLO in the Show Name field and leaving the Content field blank.
  4. For the Musical Programs or Big Band Remotes, if you were looking for a specific performer or guest star (e.g., Lena Horne or Mel Blanc), that was not found in the Content field, you could find the program by entering the key word (HORNE or BLANC) in the Appearance field.

Hints for using the search form:

  • Avoid using common words (such as in, of, or, and, for, the) in the search form. These will cause the search to return far too many Show Names or Contents. Choose key words (Abbott, bank, Gunsmoke) that are unlikely to match extraneous database entries that do not interest you. This search form does not require an exact match to find an old time radio show or performer that you are looking for.
  • This search looks for old time radio shows that match any of the words that you enter in the form. The search result for hope abbott will find shows with Bob Hope and Abbott & Costello.
  • This database search is not case sensitive. Entering the key word ABBOTT will give the same results as entering Abbott or abbott.
  • If the search results come up negative, use your browser's BACK button to return to this search form and try a more general search. For example, enter key words only in the Show Name field and not in any of the other fields.
